Grocery shopping on a Sunday? Usually not possible in Berlin, since shopping hours are regulated by law. But there are some exceptions, and this article is about them.
See it from the bright side: 20 years ago, I remember how I had to hurry up because my supermarket would close at 18:30 – on a weekday. Saturdays even at 14:00. And of course, Sunday was the sacred cow – and today it’s the only one that remained from the famous German Ladenschlussgesetz (store-closing law).
Today, the opening hours from Monday to Saturday are completely unregulated by law – but on Sunday, nearly all supermarkets are closed. However, there are these exceptions:
|Ullrich||Zoologischer Garten / Zoo station||11-22|
|Rewe||Hauptbahnhof / main station||8-22|
|Denn’s Biomarkt||Gesundbrunnen station||8-21|

Update December 2017: There’s now also an app for this, listing all of Berlin’s Sunday shopping options – including pharmacies, bakeries and even bike shops.
