Grocery shopping on a Sunday? Usually not possible in Berlin, since shopping hours are regulated by law. But there are some exceptions, and this article is about them.

See it from the bright side: 20 years ago, I remember how I had to hurry up because my supermarket would close at 18:30 – on a weekday. Saturdays even at 14:00. And of course, Sunday was the sacred cow – and today it’s the only one that remained from the famous German Ladenschlussgesetz (store-closing law).

Today, the opening hours from Monday to Saturday are completely unregulated by law – but on Sunday, nearly all supermarkets are closed. However, there are these exceptions:
